With the new version of Maptales that went online yesterday we are also starting our blog to keep our users updated on the development.
The reason why this is not the first post you see here is that we ported the existing changelog entries over to blogger, which will be the centralized source of information from now on.

Maptales v0.M2 released!
Exactly two months after the M1 release, we released an updated version yesterday. M2 features a lot of stability and performance improvements both on client and server, but also some nice features:
- Uploading images greatly improved
- New status bar for displaying upload progress and errors
- Stories can now be directly linked to via an absolute URL
- Greatly improved tag manager supporting autocomplete, multi-word tags and multiple tag input
- Thumbnail image selector for story and user (even with cool cropping feature)
- Stories save the map mode (satellite, map, hybrid) now
- Snapshots are available from a menu on the map toolbar
- Huge performance improvements on server and client, especially lines and stories
- Tons of bug fixes, layout improvements, ...
We decided to open up browsing on maptales for everyone, but keep the registration closed until we get feedback from our testers and iron out a few more bugs... also we need to make sure that we have decent hosting when going public so the demand of all the people who want to use maptales can be met. If you are interested in testing maptales, you can write testers@maptales.com and convince us to send you an invitation key.
Right now we are working hard to be able to release M2 of maptales mobile soon - so stay tuned...
